Weight limits for trucks to be increased in Norway

From February 1, 2026, the rules governing the weight of loads carried by trucks in Norway will change. Vehicles that were previously limited to a weight of 50 tons will be able to carry heavier loads.

From February, weight limits will be increased depending on the type of vehicle:

  • Trucks powered by diesel or other fossil fuels will be able to weigh up to 54–55 tons.

  • Trucks powered by biogas will be able to weigh up to 55–56 tons.

  • Zero-emission and electric trucks will be able to weigh up to 56 tons.

These changes mainly apply to trucks with 6 or 7 axles. The new rules will apply to roads where the increased weight does not compromise traffic safety, i.e., almost the entire national road network, 60% of county roads, and 20% of municipal roads.
