Traffic restrictions in Mont Blanc and Fréjus Tunnels

Traffic restrictions in Mont Blanc and Fréjus Tunnels

Drivers planning to travel in the Alps between the French and Italian borders are warned about new traffic restrictions. In the Mont Blanc and Fréjus tunnels – two of the most important links in the Alpine region – traffic will be heavily restricted, and at times, drivers will not be able to use these tunnels at all.

On June 17, 18, 19, 26, and 30, the Mont Blanc tunnel will be completely closed from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. On June 25, only one traffic lane will be available in the tunnel – the direction of traffic will constantly change, so those wanting to use the tunnel will have to wait. Due to these changes, drivers may encounter traffic jams and longer travel times.

In the Fréjus tunnel, drivers will also face traffic restrictions – the tunnel will be completely closed on the following days:

  • June 17 and 18 from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM

  • June 21 from 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM

On June 19, 20, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27, drivers will only be able to use one lane, where the traffic direction will be alternating from 10:30 PM to 5:15 AM, meaning traffic jams may also occur.
