In January, a number of new traffic restrictions and bans on trucks will be introduced on Italian and Swiss roads, which will complicate the work of long-haul drivers for several months.
Traffic restrictions in the Great St Bernard Tunnel
Due to renovation work, traffic in the Great St Bernard Tunnel connecting Italy and Switzerland will be restricted to one lane on certain days. During the renovation work, only vehicles with a height of less than 3 meters will be allowed to enter the tunnel. These traffic restrictions will apply from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the following days (except Fridays to Sundays):
January 11 to April 2
April 13 to May 8
May 19 – June 26
Temporary restrictions on the Brenner Pass
New traffic restrictions will be introduced on the A22 motorway at the Brenner Pass for vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tons. These restrictions will apply every Saturday from January 10 to March 14 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on April 10 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Restrictions in northern Italy due to the Winter Olympics
From February 4 to 22, new traffic restrictions will apply to vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tons in the Italian province of Sondrio. From midnight to 10 a.m., these vehicles will be prohibited from using certain sections of the SP 24, SP 26, SP 27, and SP 28 roads. Vehicles carrying dangerous goods will not be allowed on these roads from midnight to 11 a.m.
