Traffic restrictions in Bonn

From February 9, drivers in Bonn, Germany, will face additional traffic restrictions. Vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tons will no longer be allowed to use the Bonn-North Rhine bridge on the A565 motorway.

This bridge was built in 1967 and is used by around 100,000 vehicles every day. At the time of construction, the bridge was not designed for such heavy loads, and over the years, its condition has deteriorated significantly.

The bridge's drainage system is in very poor condition, and the structure of the bridge itself is damaged, requiring extensive renovation. It has therefore been decided to rebuild the bridge, creating a new, larger crossing over the river that can withstand heavier traffic loads.

Due to the extremely complex nature of the reconstruction work, these traffic restrictions are likely to remain in place until the construction work is completed. Although the exact project plan is still being finalised, work on rebuilding the Bonn-North Rhine bridge will not begin before 2030.
