Sweden changes rules applied to long trucks

From 15 April, trucks longer than 25.25 m will be allowed in Sweden. Although such trucks are already allowed on most of the Swedish roads, hauliers currently face problems due to the complex technical requirements applied for these types of vehicles.

From now on, five different combinations of long trucks will be allowed:

  • A-double’ combination: tractor + semi-trailer + dolly + second semi-trailer.

  • AB-double’ combination: tractor + dolly + connecting semi-trailer + semi-trailer.

  • ‘B-double’ combination: tractor + articulated semi-trailer + semi-trailer (up to 12 m long link).

  • ‘C-double’ combination: tractor + two trailers (up to 4 m high).

  • Nordic combination: Tractor + dolly + semi-trailer (approx. 27 m total length).

The new rules will apply on designated roads. All trucks must be equipped with an electronic braking system with ABS and vehicles with up to three axles must be equipped with a stability control system. These trucks must also be marked with special warning signs indicating that the vehicle is of non-standard length.
