Severe snowstorms lead to new traffic restrictions in France

As heavy rainfall and snowstorms continue in France, drivers on local roads are facing extremely difficult driving conditions. As a result, new temporary traffic restrictions for trucks are being introduced in many departments across the country.

Drivers are urged to avoid motorways and national roads where heavy snow and rain are still ongoing, namely: A10, A19, A20, A28, A71, A711, A83, A837, A85, A87 and A89. The Vallée du Rhône, Languedoc and Provence regions are currently the most affected by heavy precipitation. In these regions, the worst driving conditions are being experienced on motorways A7, A8 and A9.

In the Allier (03) region, restrictions apply from 10:00. In the Aube (10) department, restrictions apply from 5:30 to 18:00. In the Landes (40) region, restrictions apply to vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes. In the Loire-Atlantique (44) department, the permitted speed on local roads has been reduced by 20 km/h, and trucks are prohibited from overtaking other vehicles. In the Mayenne (53) region, trucks are prohibited from using the A81 motorway in the direction of Le Mans. Separate traffic restrictions apply to vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes on the P2 and P3 road networks. In the Saône-et-Loire (71) region, restrictions apply from 14:45 to 18:00.

Traffic restrictions effective from 3:00 apply in the following departments:

  • Eure (27),

  • Orne (61),

  • Sarthe (72),

  • Maine-et-Loire (49),

  • Vendée (85),

  • Indre-et-Loire (37),

  • Loir-et-Cher (41),

  • Eure-et-Loir (28),

  • Loiret (45).

Traffic restrictions effective from 5:00 apply in the following departments:

  • Charente (16),

  • Corrèze (19),

  • Charente-Maritime (17),

  • Deux-Sèvres (79),

  • Vienne (86),

  • Haute-Vienne (87),

  • Creuse (23),

  • Yonne (89).

Traffic restrictions effective from 8:00 to 18:00 apply in the following departments:

  • Marne (51),

  • Ardennes (08),

  • Nièvre (58),

  • Yonne (89).

Separate truck traffic bans and restrictions will also be applied in the following French departments:

  • Aisne (02),

  • Cher (18),

  • Indre (36),

  • Nord (59),

  • Seine-et-Marne (77).
