Starting from the 1st of July, 2024, the German road tax system is going to be changing as new tolls will now apply for trucks. Importantly, vehicles weighing more than 3,5t will now be subject to road tolls. This article provides all the necessary information on these changes.
As of December 1st, 2023, the road tolls in Germany are estimated based on the truck's CO2 emission level, the air and sound pollution caused by the vehicle and the infrastructure costs. Vehicles are divided into six categories according to the amount of air pollution they produce: A, B, C, D, E and F. The rates for trucks also depend on their weight, EURO class, and the number of axles.
The breakdown into the different air pollution groups is based on the following table:
