Important autumn season traffic restrictions in Europe

With the onset of the autumn season, numerous changes are expected to emerge across Europe, significantly impacting drivers. Traffic restrictions and road bans will create new challenges, thus in this article, we share information about the most important changes of the autumn season.

Traffic restrictions in Tyrol

In the Tyrol region, on certain days, the number of trucks crossing the Kiefersfelden–Kufstein border will be limited. These measures are being implemented to prevent traffic congestion. The number of trucks will be restricted on:

  • October 6 (Monday),

  • November 5, 12, 19, 26 (Wednesdays),

  • December 9 (Tuesday).

On these days, drivers can expect traffic disruptions on the A93/A12 motorway.

Traffic restrictions on the Lueg Bridge

On Austria’s A13 motorway, traffic on the Lueg Bridge has been restricted to two lanes in each direction – these restrictions will remain in place until October 5. Vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tons must use only the left, inner lanes.

On this bridge, truck bans will also apply on Saturdays. For those travelling towards Italy, bans will be enforced on September 6, 13, 20, 27 and October 2, and for those travelling towards Germany – on October 3.

Mont Blanc Tunnel closure

The Mont Blanc Tunnel, which connects France and Italy, will be completely closed from September 1, 5 p.m. until December 12, 5 p.m. due to renovation works. Drivers are advised to use the Fréjus Tunnel or the Great St. Bernard Tunnel instead.

Köhlbrand Bridge closure

In Hamburg, the Köhlbrand Bridge, which connects the A1 and A7 motorways, will be completely closed from October 9, 10 p.m. until October 13, 5 a.m.
