Belgium to increase road tolls in 2025

Starting from 2025, road toll rates will increase in some regions of Belgium. In Wallonia, the increase will be almost 3%, while in Flanders the local government is planning to introduce a new system according to which the toll rates will depend on the time of day.

In Wallonia, the value of the tax increase will depend on the weight of the trucks and their EURO category. The new rates (EUR/km) are shown in the table below.

The Flanders government plans to continue the existent tax on electric trucks. The government is also considering implementing a new system according to which the value of the taxes owed will depend on the time of day in which the vehicle was driven. The exact values of the rates have not yet been decided, but the charges would be lower during the nighttime. However, this proposal has been highly criticised and it is not clear whether it will be accepted.
