Road bans in Europe in October 2023

In the month of October, many European countries will be celebrating different national festivities. As a result, there will be an increase in the number of road closures during weekends as well as more restrictions on trucks during the weekdays. In this article, we provide a list of all the countries and dates on which truck traffic restrictions will be in place in Europe.

October 3, Tuesday

  • Road bans in Austria will apply from midnight to 10 p.m. They will be in force on the A12 and A13 Brenner motorways for those traveling to Germany or crossing it.
  • Road bans in Luxembourg will apply from midnight to 9:45 p.m. heading towards Germany.
  • Road bans in Germany due to public holidays will apply from midnight to 10 p.m.

October 23, Monday

Road bans in Hungary will be in place from midnight to 10 p.m. due to the National Day festivities.

October 26, Thursday

Road bans in Austria due to the National Day celebrations will be in place from midnight to 10 p.m.

October 27, Friday

Road bans in Greece will be in effect from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m.

October 31, Tuesday

Road bans will be in effect in the following countries:

  • In Croatia from 3 p.m. until 11 p.m.
  • In France from 10 p.m. until midnight.
  • In Luxembourg from 9:30 p.m. until midnight for those heading towards France and from 11:30 p.m. until midnight for those heading towards Germany.
  • In Germany from midnight to 10 p.m. in some areas (e.g. Bremen) and from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. In Lower Saxony.
  • In Poland from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.
  • In Slovenia from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.
  • In Hungary from 10 p.m. until midnight.

On Saturdays (October 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th)

In October the Saturday road bans will be in effect in the following countries:

  • In Austria from 3 p.m. until midnight.
  • In France from 10 p.m. until midnight.
  • In Hungary from 10 p.m. until midnight (this prohibition does not apply to trucks of EURO 3 and higher categories operating in the international transport sector).
  • In Luxembourg from 9.30 p.m. until midnight for those heading towards France and from 11.30 p.m. until midnight for those heading towards Germany.

On October 28th additional road bans will apply in the following countries:

  • In the Czech Republic from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m.
  • In Greece from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

On Sundays (October 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th)

In October the Sunday road bans will be in effect in the following countries:

  • In Austria, Germany, France, and Slovakia from midnight to 10 p.m. 
  • In the Czech Republic from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m.
  • In Italy from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m.
  • In Luxembourg from midnight to 9:45 p.m. 
  • In Liechtenstein and Switzerland throughout the whole day.
  • In Slovenia from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.
  • In Hungary from midnight to 10 p.m. (this ban does not apply to trucks of EURO 3 and higher categories operating in the international transport sector).

On October 29th additional road bans will apply in Greece from 4 p.m. up until 11 p.m.
