Road bans in Europe in March 2023

With the beginning of Spring European countries are introducing some new road bans. This March most truck bans will take place on Saturdays and Sundays, however, due to a public holiday in Hungary some additional restrictions will be introduced. In this article, we provide a list of countries and dates for road bans in Europe.

March 14th, Tuesday

A ban on trucks that weigh more than 7.5t starting from 10 p.m. up until midnight will be introduced in Hungary.

March 15th, Wednesday

Due to a public holiday in Hungary, a ban will be imposed on trucks that weigh more than 7.5t starting from midnight up until 10 p.m.

On Saturdays (March 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th)

Saturday bans apply in the following countries:

  • in Austria from 3 p.m. until midnight.
    • On March 4th, there will be an additional ban from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. on A12 and A13 motorways if you’re traveling toward Italy or Germany.
  • in France from 10 p.m. until midnight.
    • On March 4th, there will be an additional ban from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. for vehicles that weigh more than 7,5t (except for the Rhône-Alpes region).
  • in Hungary from 10 p.m. until midnight (this prohibition does not apply to trucks of EURO 3 and higher categories operating in the international transport sector).
  • in Luxembourg from 11.30 p.m. to midnight for those heading towards Germany and from 21.30 to midnight for those heading towards France.

On Sundays (February 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th)

Sunday bans apply in the following countries:

  • in Austria, France, Germany, and Slovakia from midnight until 10 p.m.,
  • in the Czech Republic from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m.,
  • in Italy from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m.,
  • in Luxembourg from midnight until 9.45 p.m.,
  • in Switzerland and Liechtenstein throughout the entire day,
  • in Slovenia from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.,
  • in Hungary from midnight to 10 p.m. (this ban does not apply to trucks of EURO 3 and higher categories operating in the international transport sector).
