Poland relaxes drivers‘ hours rules until the end of September

In light of the ongoing war in Ukraine, the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure has decided to loosen the rules on the working hours for drivers. Such measures were taken in order to ensure the normal supply of goods and to avoid disruptions in the supply chains due to the sanctions imposed on Russia and Belarus. The newly introduced changes will be valid until the end of September 2022.

The temporary relaxation of drivers‘ hours rules will result in the following changes:

  • Drivers will now be allowed to spend their weekly rest period in the vehicle if proper sleeping equipment is installed and safety rules are not compromised.
  • The maximum permissible number of driving hours per day will be changed from 9h to 11h.
  • The maximum permissible number of driving hours per week will be changed from 56h to 60h.
  • The maximum permissible fortnightly number of driving hours will be changed from 90h to 96h.
  • The maximum number of driving hours, after which a 45min break must be taken, will be changed from 4h 30min to 5h 30min.
